Case Study | Retail Bank, Oxfordshire

Project Method Statement

An initial site inspection will be made during normal bank hours using the access via the flat roof at the rear of the building to include a test flight to obtain a detailed / up-to-date aerial photograph of the site in question for flight / project planning, plus height tests.

For building inspection work we normally fly within 5 – 10 feet of the structure in order to provide high levels of detail, we are not permitted to fly directly overhead of anyone, not directly under the control of the pilot so we are not permitted to overfly the front elevation while the public has access.

Some clients have the option of applying for temporary road or pavement closures but this has not been mentioned in this case.

The bank’s entrance is located on the High Street side of the building.

There is also a bus stop within close proximity to the front entrance to the bank on the High Street.

  • Review of the site will take place while at the location (test images via via laptop) to identify if any further images are needed for the purpose of flight planning.

  • These test pictures will be provided to the client on return to office for the purpose of final flight planning.

  • A check-list of any client requirements will be made and will also form the main part of the flight plan, along with general grid and rotation flights to provide a detailed record of the roof structure.

  • Pre-site / on-site inspections will identify any other factors that might inform the risk assessment.

  • At this stage, we would produce a risk assessment and revise the method statement where applicable.

  • We also propose to fly the actual inspection / survey early on a Sunday morning (access permitting).

  • We will provide an additional crew member / ground crew as part of the risk assessment work for this project to manage any public concerns if the drone is seen by the public during the flight(s).

  • We will work with the client to handle any security / local police communications with regard to overflying / photographing / filming the bank.

  • We will handle any flight-based communications with any airspace users, local aerodromes (RAF Abingdon) etc
